THE SHIFT IN GEAR
It is not difficult to notice the massive shift of content consumption from other media platforms to OTT. 2018, 2019, and 2020 have been years of OTT explosion, not just in India but globally. The main reason for this increased popularity is high quality original content brought into the market with new marketing strategies and numerous distribution deals. Among all other OTT platforms, Netflix has emerged as a leader in this category and is now set to try its hands at animation movies. Three years ago when the company made its move to enter this genre, their biggest fear was whether they would find ample quality stories to make the platform a suitable place for family content. However, the increasing interest in animated movies and high predicted growth rate of the segment makes it an opportunity that no one wants to miss. Despite having high growth figures in the past 3 years, the OTT sector does not seem to take a break. It is projected that the OTT sector in India will reach as high as 24 billion in 2121. Furthermore, our nation’s video streaming industry might just reach 12000 crores by the year 2023.

Particularly, the successful rise of OTT in India can be linked back to the consumption of regional content. According to KPMG estimates consumption of content in regional languages has reached around 95% and the demand will keep getting bigger.
Apart from this, Animation has also played a crucial role in giving a boost to use of OTT platforms like Netflix and amazon prime. Unlike previous years, animation is slowly and steadily gaining acceptance among the Indian users of OTT platforms. To put it into perspective, KPM reports have stated that the visual effects and animation industry grew by 16.4 percent in the year 2016. This was possible only with the increased demand for animation content for the Indian market.
